Sensory-Friendly Attractions in Waterloo Region

I’ve compiled a list of Waterloo Region attractions that either offer specific sensory-friendly visiting hours or sensory- friendly environments. Have fun exploring:

  1. Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum: offers Sensory Saturdays every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 10:30 a.m to 12:30 p.m. https://www.waterlooregionmuseum.ca/en/exhibits/sensory-saturdays.aspx

  2. The Museum has some really engaging, hands-on exhibits and a small sensory room, off the main floor lobby, equipped with coloured bubble tubes, mirrors, gym mats and various activities. https://themuseum.ca

  3. SkyZone in Kitchener offers Sensory Sessions every Thursday, 4:00-5:00 p.m. https://www.skyzone.com/ca-kitchener/programs/sensory-session

  4. The Butterfly Conservatory: a feast for the senses, watch butterflies flit about, stand underneath a small waterfall that empties into a small pond. https://www.cambridgebutterfly.com/

  5. Sobeys stores across Waterloo Region are dimming the lights, muting music and announcements and taking a break from shopping cart collection every Wednesday, 6:00-8:00 p.m., during Sensory-Friendly Shopping hours! https://www.sobeys.com/en/stores/sobeys-cambridge/?storeNo=678

While the inclusion of Sobey’s on this list of attractions may not seem like a natural fit, any parent who’s given up on taking their kiddo grocery shopping with them will understand the rationale!

If you know of other local attractions that should be added to this list, let me know!
